I saw a commercial last night for Hershey's Special Dark and I thought, "now that looks good" but I remembered that chocolate is a no-no. Then the girl in the ad said something about "antioxidants" and I thought "now why does that sound familiar" - and I remembered reading this:
“Dark chocolate has antioxidant properties, which can actually help to protect the body from damaging oxidative stress.”![]()
Yes!
“Researchers found that plant substances called polyphenols found in dark chocolate may help to lower blood pressure.”
Oh, yeah!
“Earlier studies have even shown that eating chocolate in moderation can lead to a longer life.”
Yes yes yes! I knew it all along, because, logically, something that tastes as good as chocolate must be good for you, but it’s nice to at last have scientific proof.
“If you are healthy,” says Dr. Joseph Mercola, “small amounts of dark chocolate are not likely to be a problem. The key is to eat it in moderation (something like once every two weeks) and enjoy it when you eat it. A small bit of chocolate can be very satisfying if you savor each bite, rather than just wolfing it down.”
