Don’t tell anyone, but I watched Paul McCartney last night when I should have been blogging. The show was part of the PBS Great Performances series, Chaos And Creation At Abbey Road. It was terrific, and at 59 minutes, about two hours short of being long enough.
The thing about Paul McCartney is that he
has been doing what he does for a very long time. His body of work is huge, even without the Beatles stuff, and wildly wide-ranging and diverse. Granted, some of the quality may be uneven, but the sheer quantity of the music makes it impossible to be otherwise.
What impresses me is that, even now, fifty-some years later, it is obvious that the man loves what he does. Talent alone won’t sustain that, it takes enormous passion. His enthusiasm has not waned.
“Do what you love and the money will follow” is what I’ve always heard. Sir Paul McCartney, if no one else, is proof of that.
