To demonstrate to Billy Crystal that the average woman can, indeed, “fake it” on demand, she proceeds to simulate the expressions, emotions and, um, vocalizations of pleasure, then casually resumes eating. A woman at the next booth tells the waiter, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
Good for her. If we see someone who has what we want, we should emulate them. If someone is wealthy, and we want to be wealthy, we should do the things they do that lead to wealth. When I began a sales job, the man who recruited me was making about $500 a day more than me. His plan was obviously better than mine, so I began copying him. My presentation was just like his. His product knowledge was substantial, so I spent spare time learning features and benefits. I noticed how he dressed, how he invested his money, how he interacted with people, how he spent time away from work. I read what he read. I grilled him endlessly about what he did and why. I kept my own personality, my own style, sure, but my habits and my thinking became much like his. I wanted what he was having.
