Read, read, read, work, pray and reread. The alchemists motto, and a pretty good formula for your career.
Alchemy, of course, was a “medieval science and speculative philosophy” with a threefold goal:
change common metals into gold, discover a universal cure for disease, and prolong life indefinitely.
If that is your line of work, the recommended percentage of reading time, two thirds of your workday, sounds about right. That percentage, coincidentally, is exactly same for our modern alchemists, web developers.
At least it was when I was a web developer: read, read, read, code, pray, recode. I was the tech writer, but everything was done. The boss said I could be fired or I could learn to do web sites. I got a book and went online (my old site has finally been updated, with minimal traces of me remaining).
Jim Rohn advises working harder on yourself than you do on your job, to turn common metal into gold, to discover new knowledge and skills to prolong your career. Read, read, read, work, pray and reread.
