John D. Rockefeller said, “I do not think there is any other quality so essential to success as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.”
One of my favorite cartoons is the Wizard of Id by
Johnny Hart and Brant Parker. The King is speaking to Sir Rodney, talking about the sometimes hapless Wizard, who is standing by the water: “He’s going to make that tide go out if it takes him all day.”
That’s perseverance, and that’s what every business and every business leader needs. Good intentions and great ideas are a good start, but they are not enough. Our attitude must be that I will do or I will die trying.
This is from Abraham Lincoln: “Your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing.”
