I’ve read this a dozen times and still find it hard to believe. You read it and tell me what you think.
“The
University of
Massachusetts conducted a study comparing the well-being of lottery winners versus people who had become suddenly paralyzed. Following the initial euphoria of their newfound wealth, the lottery winners were no happier than the accident victims. The paralyzed individuals adjusted to the shock of their new physical limitations, and after this early distress had eased, they were better able to appreciate the small pleasures and victories of life than those who were overnight millionaires. The accident victims felt more optimistic about their future.”
This paragraph was taken from Make Room For Happiness by Richard Turbo. If it’s true, then all of us had better follow the four steps to happiness that Turbo recommends:
Nurture your relationships. Healthy relationships promote happiness.
Join the "movement" movement. Aerobic exercise.
Act happy.
Nurture your spiritual side. Focus on something other than yourself.
