In a stack of old papers, I found a sheet where I wrote three blessings, three things for which I was grateful, each day for a week. It fascinates me because it was written during an extremely difficult time: an impending divorce, trouble with children, and a significant financial setback. Here’s what I wrote:
Day 1
New glasses, car that runs, my new boss
Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 On some days, three blanks are not enough, so I added a “Bonus Happiness” column, that listed a garage, a garage door opener, photography, neck ties, a free country, and the men and women who defend it.
Able to play ball, healthy kids, a place to sleep
Internet access, meatloaf, cookies and cold cold milk,
good parents
Repentance, books, computers
Spell check, ears to hear, library card
Children (especially mine), music on CD, recipes
Scriptures, hot and cold running water, lip balm
I’m going to do it again, starting today, a sheet of paper, three blanks, seven days. I’ll let you know what happens. You do the same.
