According to Brian Tracy, “psychologists have determined that ‘optimism’ is the most important quality you can develop for personal and professional success and happiness. It seems that optimists have three special behaviors, all learned through practice and repetition.
“First, optimists look for the good in every situation.”
I once insulted a person, made some snide remark. The girl I was with considered my words. “You may be right,” she said, “but as near as I can tell, that’s his only fault.” It turned out she was much closer to the truth.
“Second, optimists always seek the valuable lesson in every setback or difficulty.”
I decided, at age 14, to see how far I
could ride my bike with my eyes closed, and ended up in a ditch across a fence in a farmer’s field, about 20 feet from where I started but nowhere near the direction I intended. That was a lesson I had to learn only once.
“Third, optimists always look for the solution to every problem.”
Rather than thinking “too bad I can’t afford that” change it to “what can I do to be able to afford that.”
