person driving this SUV may be overdosing on male harmonies right now. But bad days are never as bad as they seem. Bad things just happen. We deal with it and look for the good.
I was crossing a street on my bike and never saw the car that hit me broadside doing 40 MPH. One of my first thoughts was being glad that I had recently bought a helmet. I thought I was lucky to roll off the hood rather than being slammed forward and run over. My next thought was, shoot, there goes my bike.
In the emergency room, the officer came for my statement. As I described rolling off the hood without damage, he stopped me. “Son,” he said, “there is a dent in that guy’s windscreen six inches deep that’s exactly the size of your helmet.”
I ended up with a small puncture that took four staples in my leg and dark bruises about the size of
