Our newspaper continues to run stories and remarkable photos of the substantial damage done by area tornados Sunday night. Many local families are facing a long time without the necessities of life and without a place to live. But one family is just fine, thanks to teamwork and “neighbors helping neighbors.”
An Amish man named Chris Graber saw the
tornado coming and managed to get his sleeping family to safety, but his home was destroyed. The family went to the neighbor’s house for the rest of the night, and by sunrise, “more than 100 men and boys from neighboring Amish homesteads” arrived and got to work. Less than 15 hours after the tornado, the Grabers were standing in their new home.
“I figured there would be help,” said Graber, “but I had picking up the mess more in mind.”
