Six of my seven children are girls. Daughters. Females. Women. Having grown up with five brothers, I was unprepared for so many daughters, and, although I love them and do what I can for them, I sometimes feel I fail them despite my best intentions and I don’t understand them.
The first was born more than 25 years ago, and the youngest won’t leave home for another 10 years, and when that sad day comes, I’m sure I’ll feel cheated, that having them for only 35 years just wasn’t long enough. As I think about the girls today, they remind me of these words by Marion G. Romney:
“Nothing is more beautiful, more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth.”
And I got six. Thanks, girls. I love you. And your brother, too.
