Having been married and not married, I heartily endorse marriage over other options, and money is just one of the reasons. This is from an article in Practical Accountant, April 2006, page17:
A study by an Ohio State University researcher points
out that a person who marries and stays married accumulates nearly twice as much personal wealth as one who is single or divorced. The study at the collete’s Center for Human Resource Research tracked the wealth and marital status of more than 9,000 people from 1985 to 2000. Married people accumulated wealth much faster, 93 percent more than the single or divorced. Basically, the results show that divorce destroys wealth dramatically for both sexes.
