Usually, I can come up with some words, adequate, at least, for the situation, but I find myself nearly mute in the face of Julian Beever’s artistry, and perhaps just as much from his audacity.
Beever creates his remarkable 3-D art – anamorphisms – with chalk on busy city pavements. When seen from the correct angle, the images come alive, and are made more alive by Beever himself who seems to enjoy posing as part of the scene.
I know they say to do what you love and the money will follow, but at some point, in some things, we just have to do what we love for love alone, money or no money. Obviously, Julian Beever has remarkable skill and imagination. It is equally obvious that he loves what he does, and that is reason enough.
