Jones was talking about marriage, and that is true enough, but it also applies to most of what we do every day. Although sometimes disappointed, I hardly ever feel robbed or cheated. I’ve had three jobs where I was cheated out of money, about $40,000, but I don’t think about it anymore.
With all the bad things that have
happened, that happen to all of us, there is only one that makes me feel cheated. My brother – who lived next door – had an extra ticket to game seven of the 1982 World Series. An extra ticket to game seven of the Cardinals in the World Series. I called in sick to work and called him to ask what time we were leaving. “Well, John,” he said, “I, um, I, uh, I'm taking a guy from work.”
I went on to my job and watched game seven of the 1982 World Series on a 13-inch black and white TV. Someday I’ll forgive him. Just not someday soon.
