A sales person asked Jeffery Gitomer how to become motivated again. This is Gitomer’s response (from Sales Caffeine, Issue 32):
“[T]he reason that you're slipping is that the
student within you is failing you. Look at your present job. Do you really love what you do? Because if you don't, it's probably one of the reasons that you're not inspired to get out of bed in the morning and go do it. Maybe you need to just change your position.
“Look at your customers. Are you friends with them? Or are your sales exchanges pretty much transactional? If there's no relationship and there's no love in what you do, then you're gonna slip. What you have to do is tie your boot straps a little bit tighter, kick yourself in the rear end, and decide if you're going to do it. No one else is going to kick you, you must kick yourself.
“You must also decide that you're willing to do whatever it takes, at this advanced stage in your career, to be able to make more sales happen. If you're not, the best thing you can do is retire and begin to ask the closing question, ‘Do you want fries with that?’”
