I found this in a folder last night, printed off years ago, with no notation of the source. It goes something like this:
With salary and endorsements, Michael Jordan makes about $2 a second, or $178,000 per day. Every day. That’s
good money. It means when he wakes up, he made about $52,000 while he slept. If he has breakfast, he’ll make about $618 while the egg boils. If he watches The Today Show for 30 minutes, he’ll make $3,710. An early morning round of golf might cost $200, but he’ll earn about $33,390 while he plays, so he should be okay, even if he loses a ball or two. A nice meal at the clubhouse will be more than paid for by the $5,600 or so he makes while he eats.
Again, that’s pretty good money. But, if a goal-oriented guy like wanted to match his net-worth with Bill Gates – who cannot dunk a basketball – he would have to save every dime he earned for 270 years to catch up. Go Bill go.
Of course, this appears all over the Internet, and various sites put the total years as anywhere between 270 and 500. You can do the math if you like.
