That seems like good advice in any situation, but in this case, it’s good advice come cheap. I was waiting for a daughter to make her purchases at one of our local “everything is one dollar”
stores, and stumbled across an audio version of a book originally published as Staying Street Smart In The Internet Age. The new title, the one that caught my eye, is the much better Never Wrestle With A Pig. So far, the book is pretty good.
Author Mark H. McCormack touts “personal touch” or how we conduct our day and how we treat employees, clients and competitors as “keys to creating a successful, stable and profitable business.” In addition to avoiding pig wrestling, McCormick suggests that we remember the following:
- End your day on time.
- People who say they can keep a secret usually can’t.
- It’s best to overestimate your competition.
- Know when to say “it’s none of your business.”
- Be wary of unanimous agreement.
- Get paid for thinking rather than doing.
