Two news items remind us that while stupidity is pretty common, it doesn’t have much long-term benefit.
The first article is about two men passing through our county with more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana in their truck, and they were pulled over for “following too close.” Most of us realize that smuggling drugs is stupid, but if you decide to do it, for Pete’s sake, if you have more than half a ton of illegal stuff in your vehicle, OBEY BASIC TRAFFIC LAWS. Drive the speed limit. Have valid plates. Use your turn signal.
The other article is about a man arrested for pretending t
o be a sheik selling a fake Rembrandt and doors he claimed to belong to Mohammed Ali. Of course, any one of those would qualify you as stupid, but the truly stupid party in this deal is the person who paid $130,000 for the doors – just because a guy who looked like a sheik said they belonged to Mohamed Ali.
