I was 10 when Busch Stadium opened in St. Louis,
1966, and many of my favorite memories over the next 20 years are from there. I went with my dad, on school trips, with friends, with my own children. I saw Bob Gibson strike out Henry Aaron, and saw Aaron send a Gibson pitch deep over the left field fence. I saw Lou Brock, even met him. I saw David Palmer pitch a rain-shortened, five-inning perfect game against the Cardinals.
I just saw a DVD called Millions Of Cardinals Memories: Busch Stadium 1966-2005. It is brilliant – 1967, 1968, the long 1970s, 1982 (I didn’t actually see my older brother in the crowd following the celebration, but I know he was there, mocking me), 1985, 1987, the 1990s, McGuire, the 100-win seasons in this decade. Amazing.
Whatever your favorite team is, or your favorite band, your favorite anything, go adore it somewhere – watch a video, listen to a CD, something. Go enjoy yourself, relive some terrific memories this weekend. Go crazy, folks, go crazy.
