
I may well be failing as a father. My older children were well-rounded as youngsters, having been exposed to the finer things of life: the Monkees, the St. Louis Cardinals and Silver Dollar City. But the younger ones, well, I’m not so sure.
At the library last night with one of them, the librarian
noted that we had selected several Marx Brothers DVDs and asked my daughter if she was a fan. I was embarrassed that she had to say she had never seen the Marx Brothers. Well, the librarian said, trying to spare me, do you like the Three Stooges? The Marx Brothers are like the Stooges. Again, my daughter had to say that she didn’t know the Stooges. For shame.
I hope it’s not too late. Maybe this weekend we can have a marathon, beginning with Animal Crackers and ending with A Night At The Opera. It’s the least I can do.

There’s hope yet. The kids are watching a Looney Tunes video, and laughing. I wonder about these kids sometimes. They demonstrate such strange taste – such lack of taste – in their entertainment. Most of them read, which pleases me.... [Read More]
