"The fact is," said Earl Nightingale, "there is more
opportunity today than ever before - we just have to see it. A lot of people want to try new things but are too afraid of change. Remember: it is impossible to reach second base without taking your foot off of first."
Change can be a frightening prospect, leaving the safety of the base. There is a reason they call it safe and out in baseball, but that is where the game is, on the base path. If you take a lead, there’s a chance you’ll be tagged out. The longer your lead, the more chance of failure.
But the allure of the next base, of reaching that goal, impels us. We lead off, we lean, we wait, we pick our moment and take off and nothing else is like it when we slide in ahead of the tag.
