Many authors advise that we understand personality types when doing business, such as SalesDogs. Some approaches are good and some, in my opinion, are bogus. In my experience selling and recruiting, I’ve discovered there are three personality types.![]()
Some people have an open hand. They are willing to receive what you have to offer. It is not a guaranteed sale, but the information will be taken and processed, and then a decision will be made. These people are ruled by intelligence.
Some people have a closed hand. They are unwilling to receive what you have to offer, and, if you’re not careful, the closed hand may become a fist. Any decision has been made long before you came along, and you’re not going to change that. These people are ruled by ignorance.
Some people have an open hand, but the hand is at eye level, the palm open but facing out, a stop sign, back off. It appears you can get close to this type of person, but never close enough to matter. These people are ruled by fear.
Which type are you?

I acutally enjoy having someone say "Hello" to me and a kind word. There is an especially nice lady at our Walmart.
One day I was especially down and she pulled me aside and told me she really liked my T-shirt. She also told me she liked talking to me and that she loved seeing me and my children come in. She was very sincere.
I have since heard from someone who works with her that because of the good
comments that are given to the store of her kindness that she makes over 15.00 per hour. Not too bad, huh!
