I’ve had good bosses and bad. I’ve been a good boss and a bad boss. I often reflect on why I regard some employers so highly and hardly remember the others, and why some people who have
worked for me keep in touch and others wouldn’t walk across the street to spit on me.
Generally, my employers have been devout, talented and experienced. The difference has been their attitudes about me. The ones who – dare I say it – liked me and saw my potential and cared whether I did well were the good bosses, and the ones who were indifferent to me, who remained aloof, were not so good bosses.
"Have you ever heard the phrase, 'Attitude is everything'? Take it to heart, for there’s no such thing as an effective leader with a bad attitude. The best way to engage people is with your attitude, enthusiasm, and excitement."
I agree with Harry Paul and Ross Reck, quoted here in Revved! My good bosses have been genuinely excited about me and what I can do, rather than just about what gets done. I find that makes the difference.
