I haven’t mentioned how my new hobby - bass guitar – is
progressing, because I stink. I am truly awful. At least I was until last Thursday. I like playing, and I look good holding the bass, but my fingers were really sore and I sounded terrible and – until last Thursday – was completely frustrated and dreaded even touching the guitar.
I started using a DVD lesson guide rather than a book, and the first thing on the DVD was how to tune a bass. Hearing what G sounds like in tune, and matching it, I was able to tune the rest of the strings from there – and the new sound made a huge difference. The notes sounded like they should. Rather than discord, there was harmony. Rather than tension, there was resonation. Suddenly, it is fun to practice, and it sounds good. I’m pumped.
Draw what parallels you like, but that seems a pretty good analogy for most things in our lives. When we are in tune with whatever motivates us, we will be happier in what we do and what we do is more of a joy and less of a strain.
