From Mark H. McCormack in Never Wrestle With A Pig. (I’m telling you, that book just gets better and better.)![]()
There’s no perfect ratio for talking versus listening. But you can always be sure that you will never harm your cause by talking less.
You see this all the time in job interviews. A candidate can spend the entire interview listening to his future employer talk, revealing virtually nothing about himself, and still make a highly positive impression. If you ask the interviewer how it went, he’ll say, "Great!" because he did all the talking. If you ask the interviewee, he might not have the same take at first – because he did all the listening. But that impression will change if he gets the job – again, because he listened.

John - this is great advice. I agree with you completely. Listening is key to understanding, empathy, and change!
