My children show different levels of interest in what daddy does. The one who reads here most often asked if I enjoy blogging. I do, but I hadn’t thought of it in those terms. I enjoy blogging the same way I enjoy breathing.![]()
I enjoy playing tennis, too, but that activity is separate from me. The enjoyment has a beginning and an end. Blogging is nonstop. I think about it all the time, and the kids have picked up on this. We almost hit a deer, they say "he’ll probably blog about that." We see something unusual at Wal-Mart, "he’ll probably blog about that." We go to a movie, "he’ll probably blog about that."
Which is good. When you do what you love, what you’re good at, it ceases to be a separate activity, something apart from you. It becomes not just what you do, but who you are, and it becomes almost effortless. You look at life through those eyes. You see things – in my case – as a happy blogger sees them. And that’s how I’m celebrating my 500th post, by looking forward to the 501st.

Congrats, John on your 501st blog. I know what you mean about blogging
- that everything that takes place around you can inspire a blog. More of your ideas about the world come to light that way!
