Nearly everyone thinks he or she can write. If I had $1,000 for every time I’ve heard "Why pay someone when I can do it myself," I could buy a new Mustang. If you’re one of those,
here’s a book you should read.
On Writing by Stephen King is one of my favorite books about the process of writing. There are many of those, and many on the business of writing. Most of them paint no rosy picture of life behind the keyboard, but I’ve yet to see one that covers the seamy side of the craft like The Street-Smart Writer by Jenna Glatzer and Daniel Steven. It screams to be read.
The subtitle is Self-Defense Against Sharks and Scams In The Writing World. Glatzer and Steven "expose the scams and unsavory deals writers are likely to encounter along their path to publishing success." I am amazed at the tricks and traps aspiring writers can be – and are – sucked into. If you are a writer or want to be, read this book today.
