My friend Dave Coverly ran this cartoon in our local paper a while back, and it created some disturbance among local readers who just don't have enough to do.
Apparently several subscribers took offense at the thought of St. Peter using cartoon curse words. One horrified reader even threatened to cancel his subscription, which is funny because most people cancel because of the paper's profound liberal bias.
Another reader was motivated enough to send in a scriptural reference, Matthew 26:74, which says, "Then began he (St. Peter) to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man," and he concluded that "none of the saints, not even St. Peter, are/were free from committing sin."
Well, whether St. Peter uses bad language, or whether it's a sin, I don't know. I tend to agree with Coverly, who received similar e-mails, when he says that he’s hoping God is "worrying about other stuff."
