I was tempted to note the visit of guest 5,000 at CoreCharacter, as I did number 4,000, but I realized that a lot of Know More Media authors have that many visits a week, and lots of blogs have that many
a day. So I decided to just let it slide. Some nice person in India will never know he or she was a milestone.
Numbers make good goals, but they are merely a means to the end, not the end. They measure success, but they are not success. You set a goal to make 20 calls this week – not because 20 calls is magic, but because you want to make four sales, because you want to make your mortgage payment, because you want your spouse and children to have a home. The 20 calls are the vehicle, but the happy home is where you park it.
Shoot for the big numbers, but always remember the big reward has little to do with math.

I'm sure Albert Pujols, the best hitter in baseball right now, would agree. He's on the 15-day disabled list and a lot of fans are probably more upset about how that makes it next to impossible for him to break the single-season home run record this year than about the impact his injury has on his ability to help the Cardinals win.
