The third-place finisher at the Kentucky Derby this year lives near me, Steppenwolfer. He's been in all the papers lately, like the Springfield Business Journal, which reported the following:![]()
The guy who owns the horse paid $375,000, but has already earned more than $561,000, counting the $200,000 for the Derby. And it looks like a good investment will get better, much better for the owner and the horse.
A possible 15-year stud career is planned when Steppenwolfer trades in the horse shoes. There apparently are plenty of other owners eager to impregnate their mares to breed the next champion. Steppenwolfer could be hired to perform as many as 100 times per year, at $25,000 a shot, which could result in something like $37 million for his efforts. That, my friends, is some pretty good shooting.
