I was a Cardinals fan, baseball and football, until 1988. I watched or listened to nearly all the games. Eventually I noticed that my children didn’t like games – I would watch alone while they played outside. So I gave it up, boom. Sports just took too much time away.![]()
I didn't miss it. Soon, if a game happened to come on the radio, I couldn't tell by their names which team was which. I was amazed at how quickly sports had become unimportant – and at how much more time I had for the kiddies.
Now, the children are older, I'm single, and the past few seasons – good ones for St. Louis – I've watched four or five games a year. I voted for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game this year, the first time in a long time. Of the 128 National League players on the ballot, not counting the Cardinals, I've only ever heard of 12 players. I'm way out of touch, I know, but I don't care and I don't miss it. Oh, I was just joking about the peanut butter. Hey, I was a football Cardinals fan, but I'm not crazy.
