People take too long to apologize when they’re wrong. Then as it dawns on them that they are to blame for hurting someone, they are slow to make amends. They procrastinate (because apologizing is awkward for many people). They wait for the “appropriate” moment (because they want it to be as painless for them as possible).
During all this time, of course, someone’s feelings remain hurt. That’s rarely a productive period for all involved. The longer you delay, the greater the resentment that builds up.
So, if you’re wrong, admit it. If you hurt someone, apologize. The faster you do, the faster everyone can move on.
