Kyra Sedgwick says, "I only make two things pretty well, pork chops and turkey." John Travolta says, "Which is this?" It's a pretty good line in a pretty good movie, Phenomenon.![]()
Knowing the one or two things we do best – and doing them - is the only way to be genuinely successful, and, I think, the only way to find lasting happiness and satisfaction in what we do. Whether it's making pork chops or making business decisions that affect thousands of people, long-term contentment comes only from doing what we do best. You don't have to do everything else as well.
For example, later in the movie, one of the kids says to the mother, "he's nice." And the mother says, "I know, but he says he saw a UFO and he thinks he can predict earthquakes." When we focus on flaws or weaknesses, that is what we see. When we focus on our true talents, we excel.
