"Taking advantage of investors the way these individuals did is wrong – and it’s illegal," said Robin Carnahan, referring to a couple found guilty of "making investment pitches to audience members" at their Branson theater.
The couple, according to the Springfield Business Journal, persuaded "individuals to invest more than $160,000 in the shows between 2000 and 2005," and they have been ordered not to offer "unregistered securities in the future." Not one person doesn't know that offering unregistered securities is wrong and illegal, but people do it all the time.
Carnahan, the Missouri Secretary Of State, makes a valid point. Illegal or not, most of us know when what we want to do is simply wrong. It’s too bad that something has to be illegal, too, before anyone can make us stop it.
