It's Monday before the Fourth of July, which is a big holiday where I live. I am at work, but mine is one of only seven or eight
cars in the parking lot. It is a slow day, a slow news day. A perfect time, I figured, to call my cell phone service provider to increase my allotted minutes. I felt sure they were just sitting there waiting for me to call. I was wrong.
I dread calling their customer service maze, but not as much as I dread going to their local store. After masterfully navigating the Press 1 obstacle course, I got a static-filled recording that said, "Due to unusually high call volume, we are unable to respond to your call at this time. Goodbye." There was a click and a busy signal. No "if this is an emergency" number, no "would you like to leave a voice mail" option. Just "we hate you, drop dead" and they were gone. There must be a better way to run a phone company.
