July used to be my favorite month because I always read Lonesome Dove in July. Now July is my favorite month 
because the World Team Tennis season begins – and ends – in July. Tennis is a great game in person, exciting, fast and intense. The quality of play is excellent, and a lot of big name stars play. I saw Martina Navratilova once, and my favorite player, Kristen Schlukber. This year has Anastasia Myskina, John McEnroe, Anna Kournikova and Pete Sampras, among other marquee players.
The tennis is good, but the best part is just going to the arena. The still, sultry evening as the sun sets, the humid air alive with the instant hum and hush of conversation between points, the thwack thwack of balls hit harder than they are on TV. Go. You'll be glad you did.
