A comment from Cathy M. concluded with the words, "you can't fix stupid." Zig Ziglar said that if you motivate an idiot, all you get is a motivated idiot. I understand what they're saying but am not convinced it is true.
The slogan I wanted for the college where I worked was "Don't Be Stupid." I think we can fix stupid, at least our own stupidity. I broke a light bulb in my hand just to see if I could move my hand out of the way fast enough. I've fixed that stupidity. I saw a friend pour gasoline on a snake and end up burning down his dad's camper. That stupidity has been fixed. We educate ourselves, we train ourselves, so we won't be stupid.
I think stupidity is a symptom of a more insidious disease: laziness. Nothing is worse than being lazy. Stupid, you can fix. Broke, you can fix. Ugly, you can fix. Sick, you can fix. Lazy, you can fix – but you have to get up off your big fat chair and do something.

Nope, you're confusing stupidity with ignorance. Ignorance you can fix with a dose of knowledge. The fact that you purposely broke a light bulb in your hand, and your friend purposely poured a highly explosive liquid on a snake, indicates a less than firm grasp on sound reasoning and the consequences of our actions.=/
