"Very high on any wise list of dreams for our children is the hope that they develop a conscience, that they are confident in their intuition, that they become people of integrity. But integrity is not simply a result of unconditional love, healthy genes, or good luck; it is not something parents should simply sit back and hope for. Integrity emerges, if it does, because you make it important and because you choose to exercise influence in this arena."
That's from Michael Riera and Joseph Di Prisco in Right From Wrong: Instilling A Sense Of Integrity In Your Child.
I'm not sure if I agree. I have five brothers. Some of us had more or less integrity as children. I have seven children. Some of them have different levels of integrity. Basically, the same parenting, but different results. How would you explain it?

"Not in utter nakedness, and not in entire forgetfulness, but trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home." Alexander Pope
