From Kiplinger's Retirement Report, August 2006:
Consumer Reports says if you're heading to a going-out-of-business sale, check for complaints with your local Better Business Bureau or state consumer agency. Don't settle for the first price offered, and compare competitors selling the same merchandise to see if you're receiving a fair price.
Check for a warranty, and to have the best chance of getting a refund, pay with a credit card.
Seniors living in coastal states should create a hurricane-preparedness plan. Find disaster-planning information for seniors at the Red Cross web site. For those with caregivers, make sure that you and your caregiver have worked out a plan. Check your caregiving firm for services.
