From Kiplinger's Retirement Report, August 2006:
The Federal Trade Commission is warning consumers never to pay for online purchases with a wire transfer. When a consumer wires money through a money transmitter or directly to someone's bank account, the consumer has no recourse if something goes wrong. The FTC recommends using a credit card or online payment service instead.

Note: Kiplinger’s Retirement Report and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance are excellent reads, stuffed with useful, timely and significant information. The writing is generally excellent and compelling. I recommend adding both publications to your reading list.
