From Don’t Let Others Rent Space In Your Head:
Admitting that they are wrong is simply beyond some people. [The] issue comes down to the simple concept of denial. People in denial don’t want to acknowledge problems because doing so might be too painful.
Whenever the results you’re getting aren’t consistent with your goals, the next logical step should be to look for ways to change, or at least look for ways in which you can be more open to change. Even though denial may seem to be a benefit, in that you avoid problems in the short term, denial and procrastination simply don’t provide consistent, positive outcomes in the long run. What’s more, procrastination leads to an unfulfilling lifestyle.
If you want to live a rich, full life, you’ve got to commit to eliminating procrastination as much as possible.*
