I got one of those "pass this on to everyone in your inbox" e-mails today. I usually toss them out unread, but this one managed to worm its way through. These types of alarmist messages rarely are true, and I think just as often are more of a scam than what the message warns against.
This one claims that the FBI site warns against jury duty scams, which is easy enough to check, and sure enough, it was there.
"In this con," the e-mail states, "someone – a jury coordinator - calls pretending to be a court official who threateningly says a warrant has been issued for your arrest because you didn't show up for jury duty." After you protest that you never got the summons, the caller "asks for your Social Security number and date of birth so she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant."
And bingo, you're done for. Pass it on.
