We Can Work It Out

How can this possibly work out? That question is on my mind, and now, of course, so is the Beatles' song. It seems we all face it at times, something we want, something good, but there just seem to be so many obstacles that sometimes what we want seems overwhelming, impossible.

But most things can be worked out, usually in small steps rather than large. I started to compare this to writing my first book, but what I was writing seemed familiar, and sure enough, I said it back in early April. Writing the book was an impossible task for me, but my boss recommended breaking it down into little stories, and it worked. It is, as I described it, "247 pages of pure literature" to everyone else, but to me it's about 100 small stories.

Ormal Creach, the man my book was about, was always quick to praise others who helped him succeed, his coworkers, mentors, children, and - most of all - his wife. If you don't have someone to help you succeed, find someone. You don't have to do the impossible alone.

I know what you mean. I am in a situation where a bully is stealing my lunch money - so to speak - and standing up to it, much less stopping it, is frustrating, even frightening. It seems to work in the movies, where the puny kid takes a swing at the big bad guy, but even with friends and family for support, in real life, it is hard. But, I guess in the end, doing it is not as hard as living with not doing it. So here goes....

Well, SchoolBoy, gook luck, and congratulations for having the courage to act, even when you don't want to. Your analogy about the bully and school lunches seems to fit so many situations we all still face. Sometimes we are bullied at work, sometimes at home, sometimes while driving, sometimes by people we used to respect. Once upon a time, I thought grade school would be the end of that. Hmmm, thinking about it now, I don't let anyone pick on me playing basketball, although I'm usually the smallest guy on the court, but in other situations, people I'm afraid of walk all over me. I guess it depends on our attitude, which is good news, because we can always change our minds, we can change how we think. Wasn't it Zig Ziglar who asked, "what would you do, right now, if you weren't afraid?"
