From Dale Carnegie, How To Win Friends And Influence People:
The only way on earth to influence other people is to talk about what they want and show them how to get it.
The world is full of people who are grabbing and self-seeking. So the rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage. He has little competition. Owen D. Young, a noted lawyer and one of America's great business leaders, once said, "People who can put themselves in the place of other people, who can understand the workings of their minds, need never worry about what the future has in store for them."
Looking at the other person's point of view and arousing in him an eager want for something is not to be construed as manipulating that person so that he will do something that is only for your benefit and his detriment. Each party should gain from the negotiation.

There is more than one way to influence another person. All one has to do is convince another person that he/she wants something and then show or lead them to it. Just ask a car salesman or a man who is trying to gain the attention of a woman. Knowing the heart and mind of another is not only an advantage to influence someone, but it is a prime way to manipulate. When you know a person well enough, you can manipulate them for your own gain all the while making them think they have misunderstood the whole situation. More often than not, a person uses the knowledge of another's heart and mind and there is no equality of benefit for both. One walks away with a seared conscience and the other walks away with a crushed heart. This little blog was written by an extremely niave person or a sociopath. Sorry. I can read between the lines.
