From Fit In Stand Out by Blythe McGarvie:
You must understand integrity in all its nuances to capture its catalytic power. Too many business people act as if integrity begins and ends with legal compliance. As long as they follow the letter of the law, they think that they have acted with integrity. It should go without saying that compliance to law is compulsory, but it is only the most basic component of integrity. This limited notion of integrity can help you maintain your current position (by keeping you out of jail, for one thing), but it does not have the power to create a catalytic effect on your company or your career.
Much of what goes on in business falls into the domain between law and free choice. This is where integrity extends beyond legal compliance to all of those actions that may not be illegal, but nevertheless are not right.
