Gordon McKenzie, who at the time called himself the Creative Paradox at Hallmark Cards, tells of a time he bought twelve beautiful antique desks for a new division in the company. He also bought an old milk can for each office, to use as a trash can. Some bureaucrat over purchasing said, "You can't do that. Those desks aren't on the list of approved corporate furniture."
No amount of pleading would sway the person's mind. "Well," McKenzie said, "can we add these beautiful antiques to the corporate art collection?" "Certainly." The desks and cans stayed.
How you look at problems, your attitude toward them, determines what you get done. It's that simple.

People see things through different lenses and viewpoints. If we can step into the other person's shoes and see things from their point of view, we can then establish a means to communicate our ideas in a way that the other person can respond positively.
