People where I live don't dress up for funerals. Is this true everywhere? Jeans and shorts and flip flops don't really seem like proper attire for a funeral. "Sorry you're dead, dad, but not sorry enough to bother cleaning up and changing clothes before coming down for the ceremony. Got a big miniature golf match right after, and we don't want to be late."
I'm only 50, but I remember people dressing up to eat out, dressing up to fly, dressing up for work. Now they don’t even dress up at the bank. You don’t know if the guy there is really a banker or a guy who mows lawns.
Is it too much to expect that some things – especially funerals – should be held in enough respect that we dress up? If any of you show up at my funeral, 50 years from now, by golly you better have a tie on.

Amen! I'm "only" in my 40's and can't get over how casual attire is at the bank. I'm trusting these people to handle my money?? We've drawn a personal line in our family: no denim in church. It just isn't respectful. Clothes do convey a message about the wearer whether we like it or not. Appreciate your post.
