Remember this: nonstop means a direct flight with – as the name implies – no stops. Direct means that you'll have a stop, but won't need to change planes. A connecting flight requires a change of planes, and often a layover. A through flight is to be avoided if possible – it requires changing not only planes but airlines as well.
