In this era of ever-increasing environmental awareness, it is inspiring to see companies take responsibility about caring for the land under their stewardship and be concerned about the impact their enterprises have on the local environment. Kapalua Resort, located on Maui, Hawaii, is a prime example of such a company. Kapalua Resort encompasses 23,000 acres of the northwest shore of Maui, incorporating mountains, rainforests, beaches, lava flows, and pineapple fields; and Kapalua is acutely aware of its environmental stewardship.

Kapalua’s commitment to caring for the land can especially be witnessed through its ownership and management of its Pu‘u Kukui Preserve, its Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and its Marine Life Preserves. The Pu‘u Kukui Preserve West Maui Mountain range is the largest private nature reserve in Hawaii. The Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary envelops Kapalua’s two golf courses and protects 23 species of birds. The Marine Life Preserves include Honolua Bay and Mokule’ia Bay, and are Hawaii State Marine Life Conservation Districts. 

It’s refreshing to see companies take as many active measures as Kapalua Resort (and its parent company Maui Land & Pineapple) to care for and preserve the beauties of the natural resources under its domain. It shows a high degree of business and moral ethics.
