What these other 46 students chose to do was play thumb games, bowling on their cell phones or other electronic devices I didn’t recognize. They weren’t flirting, either. They preferred their games to company, and to sports. And to me, that’s a bad sign for the future of the world.

Rather than blame others, we need to accept responsibility for what we do and what we say. When we are wrong, we need to admit it and make things right.

When we are unhappy, we need to figure out why and fix it. Whether we are happy or not happy is our individual decision, no matter what others do. The finger points at you.

What if you have serious doubts about the people you work with? What if you question their competency or even their character? How do you establish a stewardship agreement based on trust?

Success is always inside out. Start with yourself. How do you se this person? Could your paradigm be part of the problem? Do you genuinely want this person to succeed? Do you believe that this person has the capacity to grow and develop?

It's our experience that most people are not intentionally incompetent. Neither are they purposefully mean, duplicitous, or manipulative. They just don't have their act together, yet. Often negative judgments about character grow out of misunderstanding. Assume good intentions. Character and competence are always on a continuum. Make sure your paradigms are true to principle.

The FBI has become aware of phishing attacks targeting users of the popular social networking web site, (MySpace).

These attacks have come in the form of a bulletin titled "CHECK OUT these old school pictures...." When a user clicks on the provided link to view the pictures, his or her web browser is directed to a screen that is an exact reproduction of the MySpace login screen. However, this offer and its corresponding web site are not affiliated with MySpace. These attacks may be a vector to introduce Malware - such as a Trojan virus - to steal financial information from recipients. And while MySpace users do not typically store financial information on their personal pages, phishers may be gambling that the login information for users' MySpace accounts is the same for other accounts at financial institutions, online auction web sites, or online payment systems.

I'm only 50, but I remember people dressing up to eat out, dressing up to fly, dressing up for work. Now they don’t even dress up at the bank. You don’t know if the guy there is really a banker or a guy who mows lawns.

Is it too much to expect that some things – especially funerals – should be held in enough respect that we dress up? If any of you show up at my funeral, 50 years from now, by golly you better have a tie on.

Engage 100 percent. If you're an employee, put 100 percent effort into every job. As a friend, put 100 percent into your friendship. Cut back on commitments and people to whom you're not willing to give 100 percent.

Eliminate excuses. Do whatever it takes to live up to your word. It's easier to keep promises you really want to make, so avoid committing too quickly and don't overcommit.

Admit when you're wrong. This increases trust, elevates credibility and strengthens the relationship.

Avoid mean and hurtful communication. Communicating with kindness always results in more positive impact.

Forgive your own transgressions. Just because we have a breach in integrity doesn't mean we're not allowed to move forward.

No amount of pleading would sway the person's mind. "Well," McKenzie said, "can we add these beautiful antiques to the corporate art collection?" "Certainly." The desks and cans stayed.

How you look at problems, your attitude toward them, determines what you get done. It's that simple.

That's not what Naaman expected. He got mad, wanting Elisha to perform a great miracle. "If he had said some mighty thing, I would have done it," Naaman thought. Elisha hadn't even bothered to tell him in person, but had sent a servant. A mere servant.

Eventually, Naaman reconsidered, and went to wash seven times in the river Jordan. His flesh became clean. He returned to give thanks to Elisha and his God.

Sometimes in our complex lives we expect the solutions to our problems to also be complicated, but they often are not. We just have to find simple solutions. One such simple solution is to always have gratitude in our hearts, even for the complexities all around us.

It's not all good. There is tremendous suffering in the world. So many of us have to bear the burden of so much. There are bombings and starvation, layoffs and abuse, intractable poverty and senseless violence.

To experience happiness in our daily lives does not mean hiding our heads in the sand. It's not about feeling absolutely wonderful all the livelong day. We're meant to feel bad as well as good – the part of our brains that experience, fear, worry, sorrow and anger is there to protect us from danger and spur us into action. When a speeding car is bearing down on you, it's not too smart to think, "Isn't that good?" Rather, you feel fear and get out of the way.

A huge, gross, disgusting ball of stinking slime and hair popped out. "Where did this come from?" I wondered. It didn't have anything big in it, like a toothpaste lid, or one of the kids' toys.

It got there one hair at a time. Over time, one hair became two, two became three, three became six, and so on until the drain was so clogged with hair that water wouldn't pass through it.

It's the same with bad thoughts. If we ever let one negative thought stick, especially a negative thought about ourselves, another will stick to it, then another, and another, then they all stick and our minds becomes a mess.

The trick is to keep our thoughts clean and positive so that first bad one never sticks.

Live by the Golden Rule.

Be honest with yourself and make decisions as objectively as possible. If you're uncertain, seek the opinion of a trusted mentor.

Surround yourself with people who glow with integrity.

Speak up when you see a breach of integrity. Silence can be as hurtful as words or actions. Cultivate dialogues for stating your honest opinion in uncomfortable situations.

Promote integrity by acknowledging the wise choices your friends and coworkers make.

Keep your promises, to yourself and others, and follow through on commitments, even when delivering on the promise is difficult or when a more exciting opportunity presents itself.

It is a mistake to build foundations on and have too much faith in things that are man-made. We often are surprised and disappointed in the end. Usually, pushing the right keys, making all the right steps, doing all the right things, will produce the desired results. But not always, and not every time.

We do well in college but can't find a decent job. We work long and hard but never have enough money. We are devoted to our relationships but people turn from us. We eat well and exercise but end up with disease. It doesn't seem right, and it may not be fair, but it happens. All I know to do is accept the possibility of disappointment and keep pushing the right keys at the right timHello, I'm Mr. Ed.
